Frequently asked questions on the Housing Allocations Scheme

Why is the allocations scheme and new applications temporarily suspended?

We are temporarily suspending the scheme to finalise the outstanding assessments for the previous scheme and to deliver the relevant system changes to support the new allocations scheme.

When does the new scheme start?

The new scheme is in place from 16 January 2025, however the scheme is temporarily suspended until 16th April 2025.

I had an application on the previous scheme, do I need to reapply?

No, we are not asking applicants to reapply, your application date will remain the same.

I applied to the previous scheme and am awaiting an assessment, what happens to my application?

Applications received before 16th January 2025 will be assessed against the eligibility and qualifying criteria of our previous allocations scheme.

Will the date of my application under the previous scheme be changed under the new allocations scheme?

No, we are not asking applicants to reapply, and your application date will remain the same.

My application to the previous scheme has been rejected as incomplete, what can I do?

Due to application to the housing register being temporarily suspended between 16th of January to 16 April 2025, you will have to wait to reapply once the application reopens on 16th April 2025.

I am at risk of homelessness, how can you help me?

If you are at risk of homelessness during this time, please contact our housing solutions team Housing solutions and homelessness advice | Milton Keynes City Council

Will any changes be made to my application under the previous scheme due to any changes within the new scheme?

There are some minimal banding priority changes, and those applications will be identified and amended after 16th April 2025 when the application for the housing register reopens. No one's banding priority will decrease. Banding priorities will increase for a small number of applications for those moving on from supported accommodation to Band B and those needing to move on from refuge accommodation to Band A.

I am not currently on the housing register but would like to apply. How does this affect me?

You can apply to the new scheme once the application reopens on 16 April 2025.

How will you allocate properties if the scheme is temporarily suspended?

In line with the new allocations scheme, under section 1.4 allocations will be made through an Exceptional Decision Panel.
