From Fostering to Shared Lives

After 17 years of fostering, Mandi and Rob transitioned to Shared Lives last May to continue supporting their former foster child into adulthood. They now provide a home for two individuals, helping them develop life skills, find employment, and gain independence.
“Seeing the people we support grow and thrive is the most rewarding job,” they say. With ongoing support, training, and regular meet-ups, they encourage others to consider Shared Lives: “You’re never alone in this journey.”

Building Confidence Through Everyday Life

With backgrounds in education and support work, Veronica and Michael found Shared Lives a natural fit. They help individuals develop independence through daily activities like cooking, shopping, and cleaning.

“Teaching kitchen skills is about more than food - it builds confidence and self-sufficiency" Michael explains. Shopping trips become lessons in budgeting and decision-making, fostering a sense of ownership and individuality.

It’s a privilege to help others lead enriched, meaningful lives”
- Veronica and Michael

Monthly meet ups

Not only will you have a dedicated Shared Lives officer, but there are also monthly meet-ups for Shared Lives carers. These gatherings provide a relaxed environment where like-minded carers can connect, support each other, and share updates.
