Lawful development certificate
To find out if a proposal requires planning permission or can be carried out under permitted development, or that an existing or proposed use of a building is lawful, you can apply for a certificate of lawful use or development (either existing or proposed).
The council will issue a certificate if it is satisfied that a particular use or development is lawful based on the evidence provided – planning merits are not considered.
