The Conservation and Archaeology team maintains a Heritage at Risk Register that identifies, monitors and records heritage assets that contribute to Milton Keynes’ unique character but whose preservation is under threat. We also maintain a record of those assets that have been removed from the register.
What happens?
Assets are assessed, with action prioritised to those assets at the greatest risk of loss. The Conservation and Archaeology team work with the owners to provide advice and agree on a course of action.
What if the owner refuses to take the necessary steps to preserve the building?
Where a building is listed, the local planning authority will use its powers under the 1990 Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act.
What happens if work to heritage assets is undertaken without consent?
Milton Keynes City Council may undertake enforcement action against works to heritage assets where consent was required but not obtained, where the asset is a listed building it may also bring a criminal prosecution.
