Milton Keynes City Council is continuing to tackle the illegal sale of age-restricted products through regular test purchasing investigations.

Last week, Trading Standards officers carried out test purchases at eight premises. During the operation, one business was found selling a vape to an underage purchaser, and another permitted a proxy sale of alcohol (where an adult buys for a minor). A warning has been issued to the businesses and any further breaches is likely to result in enforcement action.

The message to businesses remains clear: Challenge 25, always ask for ID, and record any sale refusals. Be vigilant for proxy sales.

The City Council’s Trading Standards team is committed to protecting children from harm and ensuring that businesses comply with the law. Businesses found selling age-restricted products to minors risk enforcement action.
