Milton Keynes City Council, Thames Valley Police and local health services provided by Central and North West London Community Safeguarding Children’s Team are marking ten years of working together in a specialist safeguarding team to protect children and local people.

In that time, more than 175,000 families have been supported by The Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub, known as MASH, where professionals and members of the public can raise concerns about a child or seek advice.

The MASH team has links with education, probation, housing, youth offending and mental health services and using its combined expertise, the team decides on the most appropriate action to take, to support children and their families.

This innovative way of working in Milton Keynes helps the safeguarding system work more smoothly and ensures children’s social care colleagues have more time to focus on priorities.

“By combining critical public services, we have been able to provide a faster, more co-ordinated and consistent response to safeguarding concerns about children in Milton Keynes. The team work with thousands of families, helping to identify potential issues early on and provide the right help at the right time.”
- Councillor Joe Hearnshaw, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People
