Fly tipping in Bourne End

A Bedfordshire resident has been left with a bill of more than £3,000 for dumping a mattress and other waste in a country lane in Milton Keynes.

Milton Keynes City Council successfully prosecuted the man for illegally fly tipping the rubbish on a lane in Bourne End on 28 March 2023.

On Friday 22 July, Magistrates heard witness evidence that the rubbish was dumped from a blue Ford Transit van which MK City Council’s Environment Crime officers had been able to identify as a hire vehicle and subsequently traced the driver.

The driver failed to co-operate with the investigation and was summonsed to appear at Milton Keynes Magistrates. He failed to attend the court hearing and in his absence was fined £1,760 ordered to pay the city council’s legal costs of £565 and a victim surcharge of £704.

“We do not tolerate this kind of behaviour and always aim to take action against fly tippers. This offender has paid the price for not disposing of their rubbish properly. We urge residents to report fly tipping as they’re helping to improve where we live.”
