Milton Keynes City Council has teamed up with MK College to expand local access to free adult numeracy classes.
Last year, more than 1,500 local people took part in a free numeracy or literacy class arranged by the City Council. It hopes that by partnering with MK College, it will help more people to access this support.
The City Council’s programme of free maths education is funded by the Department for Education (DfE) via a scheme known as Multiply. Residents who do not already have a GCSE grade C/4 or higher in maths can access free classes that fit around their lives – whether that be in person or online, at work or in the evening. These can be part-time or intensive with additional support to meet their needs.
Earlier this week, a decision was made to fund Milton Keynes College to help run the programme alongside the City Council’s Community Learning Service. The City Council will pay the college £750,000 over three years to deliver high quality, adult numeracy courses.
The courses, which are led by the City Council, are open to all residents of Milton Keynes and available to access at venues across the city.
