Milton Keynes City Council has returned 30 council homes to families in need, following an investigation which revealed the properties were being unlawfully sublet.
The city council’s investigation which began in May last year found that tenants were profiting from council properties, with homes either being privately sublet or advertised as available to rent for short periods. The homes have been returned back into proper use to families who need them.
It is illegal for council tenants to sublet their properties under any circumstances. The city council has proceeded with taking those responsible to court and will continue to do so when necessary. Anyone who think a property might be being unlawfully sublet should report it by calling 01908 252937 or emailing fraud_central@milton-keynes.gov.uk.
