A one-day event created by the City Council will bring together more than a dozen local organisations with residents who have dementia, their family, and carers.
‘Talking Dementia’ will be held at The Church of Christ the Cornerstone on Friday 30 June (10:30am – 2:30pm) and will include speakers, music, and activity workshops alongside opportunities to speak with professionals. The FREE event will be open to all MK residents plus their friends and family who want to learn more.
Activities will include Dementia friendly football sessions run by MK Dons, a chance to meet miniature therapy ponies, ‘singing for the brain’ plus a wide range of crafts and board games.
Representatives from a wide range of companies, charities and organisations including Carers MK, Parks Trust, Alzheimer’s Society, Age UK, Bucks Fire and the City Council will be on hand to answer questions and provide information.
Doors open at 10:30am with speakers and activities running from 11am. There is free parking outside the church and light refreshments will be available throughout the event for all guests.
In England, it is estimated that around 676,000 people have dementia. MK City Council is working closely with local charities, businesses, and organisations to improve life for those living with the condition. The council-led partnership is working on a broad range of city-wide and local community projects, ranging from improvements to signage and building design through to new training and education programmes.
“Dementia impacts hundreds of families across our city including my own. We want to make sure that Milton Keynes is a great place for those living with dementia – whether they’re at home, at work or in the community. This event is about shining a light on the wonderful groups, clubs, and local support available but it’s also about having a great time. There will be something for everyone with crafts, music, and physical activities on throughout the event.”
