Milton Keynes City Council Leader Pete Marland responds to today’s Government announcement that international government representatives, tech company CEOs and academics will be heading to the first major global AI safety summit at Bletchley Park in Milton Keynes on Wednesday 1 and Thursday 2 November:

“Milton Keynes is the home of innovation, from the ground-breaking development of modern computing at Bletchley Park to our role today at the forefront of global growth in technology and AI.

“It’s fitting that the world’s first major summit on harnessing the power of AI safely should take place in a smart city where collaboration with business and academia is pushing forward the opportunities of technology.

“We look forward to welcoming world leaders and tech pioneers to Milton Keynes for productive conversations.”
- Leader of MK City Council, Cllr Pete Marland

The summit will bring together key countries, leading tech companies and researchers to agree safety measures to evaluate and monitor the most significant risks from AI.

Together with our partners at Thames Valley Police, Milton Keynes City Council will be working to support the summit and will provisionally provide guidance to local people and businesses about the impact of this significant event on Thursday 21 September. Some temporary road closures and other changes are anticipated.
