There’s less than a week left until the deadline to apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate, which is needed by anyone wishing to vote in person at this year’s local elections who doesn’t already have an accepted form of ID.
In common with voters across the country following a change in legislation, Milton Keynes voters will need to show an accepted form of photographic ID to vote in person at the local elections on 4 May (postal voting is not affected).
Photo ID that can be used includes a passport, driving license, or concessionary travel pass, such as an older person’s bus pass or the MK ‘All in One Card’. Voters will be able to use expired ID if they are still recognisable from the photo. A full list of what’s accepted can be found at electoralcommission.org.uk/voterID
People who don’t have any of these can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate at voter-authority-certificate.service.gov.uk but must do so before 5pm on 25 April to ensure they’re able to vote in May’s local elections.
Anyone unable to make it to a polling station on 4 May still has time to apply for a proxy vote, which is where someone can vote on your behalf. The deadline to apply is also 5pm on 25 April. Find more details about proxy voting at www.gov.uk/how-to-vote/voting-by-proxy
