At a ceremony outside Civic this morning, Milton Keynes City Council raised the Armed Forces Day flag to mark the beginning of Armed Forces Week.
Mayor of MK, Cllr Mick Legg was joined by Council Leader Pete Marland and Countess Howe, Lord-Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire to perform the flag-raising, in an event also attended by SERFCA (South East Reserve Forces and Cadets Association) and leading military charity Walking with the Wounded, alongside current members of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families.
MK City Council signed the Armed Forces Covenant in 2017 and has been recognised with the Gold Award in the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme for its work to support members of the Armed Forces community. Initiatives to help veterans back into the workplace include a guaranteed interview scheme and the city council also has range of supportive HR policies for veterans and reservists.
Celebrations to show appreciation for the work of the Armed Forces are taking place across the country ahead of Armed Forces Day on Saturday 24 June. You can read more about Armed Forces Day by clicking here.
