Milton Keynes City Council has pledged its support for this year’s Great British Spring Clean, run by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.

The campaign, which runs from 17 March to 2 April, will see people taking action to clean up streets, parks and open spaces across the country.

Milton Keynes City Council is offering resources to groups setting up litter picks as well as calling on residents to show pride in their area by making a pledge on Keep Britain Tidy’s website to pick up litter. This helps to make a huge difference to the environment, over and above the work of the City Council’s environmental teams. Keeping MK clean – which includes dealing with litter, fly tipping and other environmental mess costs the City Council an average of £3m every year.

The Great British Spring Clean brings together individuals, community organisations, and businesses to make a difference to the environment. After the 2022 campaign, 85% of people who took part said they felt more pride for their local area.

"We have litter pick kits held in the community to hire free of charge. These are not held centrally, but in the community making it easier and more convenient to access. Check our Litter Pick Holders List to find the one nearest to you.”

“We would really appreciate help from local residents, businesses and schools to take part as volunteers and join the events to help clean up their local areas. We want MK to be an even cleaner, greener and safer place” added Cllr Townsend.
