Work has started to demolish The Gables in Wolverton after Milton Keynes City Council found new and better homes for its tenants last year.
The process to knock down the tower block is underway as contractors Keltbray work from the top to take one floor apart at a time. Around 95% of the materials from the building will be recycled.
Work on Mellish Court in Bletchley is also expected to begin next month. MK City Council will then clear the space and start conversations with local people about how best to replace the blocks.
In 2021, MK City Council acted quickly to rehouse almost 200 families from The Gables and Mellish Court after it determined work on the 1960s buildings was needed to meet new fire safety standards. It subsequently decided to knock down the buildings, its last two tower blocks in MK.
Earlier this year, the empty sites were used by Bucks Fire and Rescue service for fire safety training.
