Today is World Social Work Day and this week, Milton Keynes Council is paying tribute to its teams of social workers and encouraging others to find out more about a career in social care.
MK’s social workers work with the most vulnerable children, adults and families, often in partnership with NHS health professionals and other local agencies. In the past year, more than 2,200 children and young people and 1,500 adults have received help from specialist teams.
Some residents have extremely complex needs, and social workers make sure they are receiving the right support and care as well as providing advice.
The adult social care team also works with people who are leaving hospital but need extra help and sometimes equipment to settle back into their home and stay independent. More than 2,500 local people have been helped this way over the past year.
Councillor Zoe Nolan, Cabinet Member for Children and Families said: “Our social workers do an incredible and often difficult job. I’m so proud of my colleagues who worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic and continue to ensure that vulnerable people of all ages are supported in Milton Keynes.”
