Parish registers were first kept in 1538, though many of the earlier ones have not survived.
Parish registers for Buckinghamshire
Parish Registers on Microfilm:
The local studies and family history department at Central Library holds most of the parish registers and Bishops' Transcripts for Buckinghamshire on microfilm. You can look at our Parish Registers Index to check what is available for each parish.
Transcripts of Parish Registers:
A small collection of printed transcripts are available in the local studies and family history department at Central Library and you can search the Index of Parish Record Transcripts.
Buckinghamshire Archives:
Buckinghamshire Archives in Aylesbury holds many of the original Buckinghamshire registers along with some transcripts.
Milton Keynes Cemetery Records:
Milton Keynes cemetery records are kept at Crownhill crematorium. Further information is available on the Burial Searches page.
Parish registers for other counties
International Genealogical Index (IGI):
There is no central comprehensive index to parish register entries. However it is worth searching for events before 1837 on the International Genealogical Index which covers many UK parishes.
Vital Records Index:
The Vital Records Index is a CD-Rom which covers some additional parishes and is also available in the local studies and family history department at Central Library.
The Phillimore Atlas and Index of Parish Registers:
Held in the local studies and family history department at Central Library, this register helps you find out where most UK parish registers are kept.
LDS Family History Centres:
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) has made microfilm copies of many parish registers. You can find out what is available through the FamilySearch website and order copies to view at your local LDS Family History Centre.
The Society of Genealogists:
The Society of Genealogists in London holds a vast collection of copies of parish registers and indexes in various forms. You can search their online catalogue for details.
National Burial Index:
The local studies and family history department at Central Library has a copy of this CD-Rom, which contains over 18 million names from 1538–2003. This index can also be viewed at the FindMyPast website.
