A highway is a defined way over which the public has a right to pass and re-pass freely. Over some highways the public right of way includes the use of vehicles; over other highways it may be limited to a right on foot only.
Milton Keynes Council is the highways authority for the Milton Keynes area. Highways that are maintained by the highway authority are known as ‘highways maintainable at the public expense’. The roads and footpaths that the Council has adopted as highways maintainable at the public expense appear in the list.
